Deep Black HBL liquid is a uniform water-soluble dye with excellent light resistance, weather resistance, and heat resistance.
Deep Black HBL is mainly used for:

  • Dyeing aluminum products in the electronics and optics industries due to its excellent thermal stability.
  • Dyeing outdoor architectural aluminum materials because of its excellent light and weather resistance.
  • Dyeing indoor products to blue-gray.

Applicable pH:5.5±0.5
pH adjustment:It is recommended to add Anodal Dye Buffer to adjust to pH 5.6
Water quality requirements:Deionized water is recommended, but tap water can also be used, although it will reduce the lifespan of the bath solution
Sealing requirements:It is recommended to use Anodal® ASL (one-step or two-step)

3. Bath solution preparation
3.1 Preparing the bath solution
Since this dye is already in liquid form, preparing and adding to the bath solution is very easy and can be added directly. It can be measured by weight or volume.
3.2 Controlling the bath solution
When using Sanodal system dyes, it is recommended to control the bath solution by concentration and vitality.
There are three suitable methods for adjustment:

  • Supplementing the bath solution
  • Partial replacement of the bath solution
  • Complete replacement of the bath solution

Bath solution supplementation:
When the actual concentration is below the required 10%, the bath solution should be supplemented. When its vitality decreases, the bath solution should also be supplemented. In this case, it is necessary to add not only the amount of dye consumed but also to compensate for the dye amount that reduces the vitality of the bath solution, even if this may exceed the initial dye concentration.
Partial replacement:
Unlike bath solution supplementation. When the actual concentration of the bath solution is much higher than the set concentration due to the influence of high concentration impurity ions, and vitality is found to decrease, partial replacement of the bath solution is required.
3.3 Bath solution service life
With proper control and maintenance, the Deep Black HBL bath solution can last for several months or even years without losing dyeing ability. However, the following points must be noted:

  • The dyeing tank or container must be made of suitable materials. (e.g., stainless steel, porcelain, plastic)
  • When the bath solution is not in use, it is necessary to add acetic acid or dilute sodium hydroxide solution to maintain the pH value between 5.5-6, reducing natural aging.
  • Remove any impurities that affect the function of the bath solution as much as possible.

Reasons for reduced bath solution lifespan:

  • Presence of phosphates in water (e.g., chemically softened water)
  • Impurities brought in (sulfate or aluminum ions)

4. Dye lightfastness and other properties
4.1 Lightfastness
Deep Black HBL has excellent lightfastness.
Black dye:

Film thickness
ISO 2135, blue scale method
12um
>8
25um (Sanodal)
>8

4.2 Heat resistance
Dye test samples have very stable heat resistance.
This dye (12um-15um) was tested at 250°C for 2 hours. The color did not change.
4.3 Closure Quality
Closure quality is not affected by dyes.
4.4 Corrosion Resistance Testing
The following test results are excellent and not affected by dyes: - Cass test (ISO 3770, 24 h) and - Kesternich test (DIN 50018, SFW 2.0 S, 6 weeks)

4.5 Dye Bleeding
Unsealed dyeing cannot be removed with dilute nitric acid and sulfuric acid. It can be treated with 10% nitric acid + 5% potassium permanganate, and then must be neutralized in a 5% sodium bisulfite solution for 1-5 minutes.
5. Treatment of Waste Dye Liquor
Waste dye liquor can be treated with Anodal WT-1, and the following table lists the treatment methods for dye wastewater:
