Cathodic Degreasing

The volume of hydrogen gas evolved at the cathode is twice that of oxygen evolved at the anode, so the efficiency of cathodic degreasing is higher than that of anodic. The substrate is not corroded, but hydrogen embrittlement can occur. If the solution contains metal impurities, they will deposit on the surface of the parts, affecting adhesion.

Suitable for degreasing non-ferrous metal parts such as aluminum, zinc, tin, lead, copper, and their alloys.

Anodic Degreasing

The substrate metal is free from hydrogen embrittlement and can remove surface residues and certain metal films such as zinc, tin, lead, chromium, etc. However, the efficiency of anodic degreasing is lower than that of cathodic and it has a greater corrosive effect on non-ferrous metals.

Hard high-carbon steel and elastic material parts such as springs and elastic sheets generally use anodic degreasing. However, materials with more active chemical properties such as aluminum, zinc, and their alloys are not suitable.

Combined Cathodic and Anodic Degreasing

Alternating cathodic and anodic degreasing to leverage the advantages of both is the most effective electrolytic degreasing method. Depending on the nature of the part material, choose to first perform cathodic degreasing followed by a short time of anodic degreasing, or first anodic degreasing followed by a short time of cathodic degreasing.

Used for degreasing steel parts without special requirements.
